Young Friends Red Cross Beach Bash

More than 400 young society from Palm Beach and New York – all clad in Lilly Pulitzer attire – rang in the New Year early on Dec. 30 at The Beach Club in Palm Beach during the Young Friends of the Red Cross Beach Bash.

Co-chairs Bobby Leidy, Therese Mersentes and Elizabeth Meigher warmed up the cool winter evening event with red-hot performances by Pyro Fusion fire dancers, music by Miami-based DJ Le Spam & Spam Allstars and the parading Bahamas Junkanoo Revue. The popular Bahamian troupe energized the crowd in their inimitable style with cowbells, whistles and a conga line. Mermaids in seashell tops set the beachfront stage, and guests enjoyed signature cocktails courtesy of Ron Atlantico rum, hand-rolled cigars, and a menu of all-American culinary classics like cheeseburger sliders and mac and cheese.

Bruce Sutka was the creative genius behind this year’s “Lilly or Louder” theme and tropical décor. Highlights of the evening included a raffle featuring a Richard Petty driving experience and coveted items from Worth Avenue anchors Saks Fifth Avenue and Mary Mahoney. Lilly Pulitzer and Lamborghini Palm Beach sponsored the Beach Bash and underwriters included Bill and Nancy Rollnick; Therese Mersentes; Bobby Leidy; Chris Leidy; and Herme de Wyman Miro.

In addition to the chairs, notable guests included Bill and Nancy Rollnick with their dog, Buzz; Ambassador Bonnie McElveen Hunter, chairman of the American National Red Cross Board of Governors; Tweed Bogache; Larry Casey, CEO of the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter of the American Red Cross; Aaron Carter, music artist and recent contestant on Dancing with the Stars; Chris Meigher; Liza Pulitzer; Nicole Munder; Desmond and Cristina Keogh; James and Carol Bradbeer; Joanna Lee; Carl Loof; Lori and Rodin Younessi; Gianna and Anita Valentino; James C. Holmes III; Alexi Mersentes; Siobhan Shea; Andrew Steel; and Tara Tobin.

The Young Friends of the Red Cross is dedicated to developing a next generation of supporters for the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Originally founded in 1972 by H. Loy Anderson, Helen Rich and Sally Fenlon-Young, the event “went dark” for five years in 2002 and was reestablished in 2007 through the energy and generosity of Bill and Nancy Rollnick. The Rollnicks chaired the prestigious International Red Cross Ball at Mar-a-Lago the past three years, and are affectionately known as the ‘Eternal Young’ Friends of the Red Cross along with their beloved furry dog Buzz.
