Israel’s United Nations Ambassador Gabriela Shalev, an international expert on contract law, academic president and professor, as well as award-winning author, served as the Keynote Speaker at American Friends of The Hebrew University’s Seventh Annual Scholarship Brunch, held December 13 at the Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach.

The Ambassador, Israel’s fourteenth permanent representative to the United Nations and the first woman appointed to this post, was interviewed at the brunch by Claire Shipman, senior national correspondent for ABC News.

Prior to her appointment to the UN, Ambassador Shalev served as president of the Academic Council and Rector of Ono Academic College in Israel. She is considered an international expert in contract law and procurements and has taught at The Hebrew University as well as others across the United States, Europe and Canada. In addition, the Ambassador has provided legal opinions for the Supreme Court of Israel, received numerous law awards, authored nine books and has provided audit expertise for major corporations in Israel.
Ms. Shipman, who regularly serves as a substitute anchor for both "Good Morning America" and the weekend edition of the morning broadcast, has interviewed former Vice President Dick Cheney, Queen Rania of Jordan, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as presidential candidates and political leaders. Shipman has reported from Iraq, where she spent time with former U.S. Ambassador L. Paul Bremer. She was part of the team that covered the 2008 presidential election for ABC News and also continues to report on various news stories affecting the lives of Americans around the country.

Chairing the brunch were Roberta and Stanley Bogen, Sherry and Kenneth Endelson, Roberta and Paul Kozloff, Laurie Silvers and Mitchell Rubenstein. Honorary Chairs were Dini Katz and Dr. Maria Spinak.

Attending the brunch were: Diane Belfer, Phyllis Gurwin, Barbara and Morton Mandel, Violet Werner, Lois and Martin Zelman, Mickey and Larry Beyer, Marjorie and Robert Emden, Barbara and Clive Kabatznik, Ellen and H. Irwin Levy and Susan and Darrell Ross.
