Green Mountain Eco Fest
09/10/2010 - By Eldridge, MO

Green Mountain Eco Festival was a three day celebration of sustainable living featuring music from around the world, green workshops, and camping by the Niangua River in the hills of the Missouri Ozarks!

Patrons came to enjoy nature with us and learn how to live in harmony with our planet while having a great time and enjoying music & performing arts. Proceeds are used to fund other Green Mountain Sustainability Center projects such as the Green Thumbs' Community Garden, biodiesel processing, and the Green Earth Village.

The Fest featured lots of fun eco-activities that everybody could participate in. We invited speakers to get visitors excited about changing the future of our planet and non-profit organizations to show people how they can get involved with a group of committed citizens!

We also lead by example, making every effort to throw the greenest festival possible. Some of the things that we did include:

--Biodiesel shuttle buses provided by Green Bus, LLC and Mountain Creek River Resort

--Zero-waste stations with recycling, composting and reusing barrels.

--Vendors featured environmentally-friendly products. Food vendors all agreed to use compostable containers or products made out of recycled materials. Custom Catering even served their food on corn husks!

--Staging equipment is run with alternative energy power sources. In 2009, two of three stages were powered by 100% biodiesel.

--We used eco-friendly cleaning products that are good for your health and the planet's in the showerhouses, restrooms and cabins.

--Flyers were printed on recycled paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council with soy ink and biodegradable UV coating.

--Free water refill stations sponsored by Earthlust eliminate the need for disposable bottles of water.
