Easter Seals Derby Day Party

Nearly 200 guests gathered recently at the International Polo Club in celebration of the 135th Kentucky Derby to benefit children with special needs at Easter Seals Igoe-Amar Child Development Center in West Palm Beach.

This unique fundraiser featured a live televised viewing of the Derby race, a live horse exhibition, Dixieland music by members of Wellington High School Jazz Band, the traditional mint julep and all of the best hats of the season!

Co-Chairmen of the event were Brenda and Robert Castellano, Barbara and Richard C. Gilbert, Suzi and Richard Goldsmith, Lorrain and Malcolm Hall and Barbara and James Kravitz. Guests celebrated the Run for the Roses winner with dancing to the sounds of David John and The Max Band and dined on delectable Derby traditions including bourbon pecan chocolate chip derby pie. Fabulous silent auction items filled the venue and patrons placed fun wagers on the race horses.
“All five chairmen together with a large committee helped to make this one of the most successful Derby events in years! In a time where tough choices are being made by individuals and corporations, we are so thankful for all of the support to Easter Seals,” said Barbara Gilbert, Co-Chairman of the event.

During the event, all of the past Derby chairmen were honored for their support of Easter Seals over the last nine years. Chairmen were presented with beautiful horse stirrup pearl necklaces and were thrilled to receive this honor. Past Chairmen included: Gail Brophy, Stephania Conrad, Henry Fong, Suzi Goldsmith, Lee Hennessee-Gradante, William Koch, Faith Morford, Lori Stoll, Mary Frances Turner, Maureen Woodward and Gail Worth.

The Derby Day Committee was comprised of nearly 100 members and included Honorary Chairmen Elizabeth Bowden, Norma & Simon C. Fireman, Arlette & Robert Gordon and Herme de Wyman Miro. Auction Co-Chairs were Cynthia Maronet and Judith Morrell.

Sponsors for the event were: Grand Benefactors – Norma & Simon C. Fireman; Platinum Sponsors: Brenda & Robert Castellano and the H and H Kravitz Charitable Trust; Silver Sponsors: Anonymous Friends of Easter Seals, Paula & Robert Butler and Lee Hennessee & Charles Gradante; Bronze Sponsors: Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust, Arlette & Robert Gordon, Barbara & Richard C. Gilbert, Mary Virginia Knight & Henry Fong, The Schoch Foundation, Valerie J. Sherlock & Austin M.
