Chelsea's Walk for SUDEP Awareness
09/25/2011 - By Littleton, CO

Beautiful weather, beautiful crowd! 2nd Annual Chelsea's Walk for SUDEP Awareness was a huge success.

500+ walked with us, here and across the US raising SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy) Awareness and funds for seizure-response dogs and Emfit Monitors for those living with Epilepsy.

Food sponsors included Evol Burritos, Garbanzo's, Jamba Juice, Aspen Pure Rocky Mountain Water and Schwans.

Other sponsors were Cyberonics - makers of VNS, Emfit, Inc., Kaitlin's Cauze and Deb Sheppard.

The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation is a Colorado non-profit corporation formed by Julie and Doug Hutchison to provide help to individuals, particularly children and young adults, who have epilepsy. The main focus is to raise funds to pay for trained seizure-response dogs that can help detect when someone may be having a seizure and provide warnings and/or respond after a seizure by calling 911, getting help or breaking a fall. The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation is named for Julie and Doug's beloved daughter, Chelsea, who died in her sleep during a seizure in April of 2009. SUDEP was the cause of her death. During the 6 years that Chelsea had seizures, no one ever told the Hutchisons a seizure could take her life, other than through an accidental fall or drowning. As a result, another focus of the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation is to make those living with epilepsy aware of SUDEP and informed of the risks, so that no other families are blind-sided like the Hutchison's were.
