Alliance for the Arts Prize Benefit

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Frank Sciame, Jr. and Randall Bourscheidt were recipients of the Alliance for the Arts Prize on Monday, October 25 at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater.

The city's civic and cultural leaders celebrated the prize recipients and the work of the Alliance with cocktails, dinner and tributes. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg presented Christo and the late Jeanne-Claude with the prize for their incomparable gift to New York – The Gates. Guests were treated to a short film by Antonio Ferrera (based on the film The Gates, directed by Ferrera and Albert Maysles) that captures the saffron days of Central Park.

Amanda Burden, Chair of the Planning Commission of New York City, presented the prize to Frank J. Sciame, Jr. (and the F.J. Sciame Construction Company) for building solid and exciting homes for culture –from the Bronx Library Center to the New Victory Theater to the New Museum on the Bowery.

After a speech by Martin Segal, the Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Kate Levin, presented the prize to Randall Bourscheidt. During his 21 years as the president of the Alliance for the Arts, Mr. Bourscheidt has united the arts community in advocacy, research, children’s art education and technological innovation for the benefit of all New Yorkers.
