A Celebration of Art, Wine and Literacy

The Leadership Council (formerly Young Professionals Board) of the newly renamed Read Alliance hosted its third annual fall fundraising event, �A Celebration of Art, Wine and Literacy,� on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The fundraiser took place at the Raandesk Gallery of Art at 16 W. 23rd St. in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Approximately 125 people attended at a cost of $85 per person ($150 for two).

Sommeliers from eight wineries were on hand to serve their finest vintages, with food catered by The Crooked Knife restaurant on 14th Street. Brooklyn artist Jason Bryant was also at the event to share his current exhibition of large-scale paintings at the Raandesk Gallery. The gallery committed to donating 10% of any art sold the night of the event to Read Alliance. Works by other artists, including painter Jayson Atienza, photographer Michael Kwiecinski and street artist James Muchmore, werealso be on display, with some of their pieces available as raffle prizes.

In addition to the artwork, other prizes that were won in the raffle ($20 tickets, $50 for three) included a $150 gift certificate to the Starr Restaurants (including Morimoto and Buddakan), a signed Morimoto cookbook, two club-level tickets to a New York Rangers hockey game, a gift certificate for one free haircut by Roberto at Bumble and bumble, a $350 gift certificate from D.C.-based wedding photographer Sandi Foraci, tickets to Jazz at Lincoln Center, a personalized tour for three of the Pentagon, and a selection of three classic book-cover t-shirts from Out of Print Clothing.
