Former New Jersey Governor Thomas H. Kean, Time to Know Founder Shmuel Meitar, and Catapult Learning President and CEO Stuart Udell were the guests of honor at the 2011 “I Have A Dream” Foundation Spring Gala, Tuesday, June 14th.

This very special occasion also marked the 30th Anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” Foundation founded by Eugene M. Lang.

Gov. Kean was the recipient of the Eugene M. Lang Lifetime Achievement Award, introduced by former United States Senator Bob Kerrey, President Emeritus, The New School. Mr. Meitar was the recipient of the Innovator’s Award, introduced by Marc Sternberg, Deputy Chancellor of Portfolio Planning, New York City Department of Education. Mr. Udell was the recipient of the Education Warrior’s Award, introduced by Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, New Jersey Lieutenant Governor & Secretary of State.

"We are truly fortunate to honor three such distinguished leaders who are committed to improving the education of our young people," said Iris Chen, President & CEO of the "I Have A Dream" Foundation. "Their bold and innovative thinking along with their leadership and conviction – all on behalf of the nation’s most under-served students - - have moved us closer to our vision that one day, every child in every neighborhood will have the opportunity to achieve higher education and capitalize on their talents and passions.”

Additional honorees at the Gala were Rafael Rodriguez, CEO, Brace Yourself, P.C., who is the recipient of the “Spirit of the Dream” Alumni Achievement Award, introduced by Michelle Hord-White, Director of Talent Recruitment and Development, ABC News. Special recognition was given to Eugene M. Lang, lifelong philanthropist and Founder of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation, introduced by Musukulah Kromah, Dreamer, “I Have A Dream” Foundation–Newark; and Arthur Levine, President, Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.

The “I Have a Dream” Foundation Spring Gala kicked off at 6:30 PM with an hour of cocktails followed by the Awards Presentation and a sit-down dinner at 7:30 PM. Kevin McCormick, “I Have A Dream” alumnus and Democracy Prep World Percussion Ensemble performed.

Honorary Chairs for the IHAD Spring Gala were Matthew Goldstein, Colorado State Senator Mike Johnston, United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, Arthur Levine, Kenneth D. Merin, Margaret Spellings, and Former United States Senator Harris Wofford. Warren Eisenberg, Jeffrey Fromm, Jeffrey Gural, and J. Ronald Terwilliger served as Co-Chairs.
